We are so excited to be back with in person programing this year! The past month has been an exciting time with the start of the official MERO season. So far we have had a family information night, our first group trip to Jasper Ridge Biological Preserve, and rock climbing at Movement Climbing Gym. It has been so much fun to get to know our new group of students this year, and we are so excited for all of the different events that we have planned! This last week MERO students got to try rock climbing at Movement Climbing Gym in Belmont. Students cheered for each other, gained confidence in themselves through doing something difficult, and for course had a ton of fun! We have seen every year that climbing is a great way to build a strong and positive group culture. Students left the climbing gym tired but happy and proud of themselves for doing something that just a few hours before had seemed impossible. Racing to the top of the wall. Tyler points out a plant at Jasper Ridge. Students are all given Rite in the Rain notebooks and encouraged to use them to share thoughts, observations, and sketches throughout the year. Monica was excited to find an animal track at Jasper Ridge! At the lake by Jasper Ridge.

About usWelcome to El Mero Mero, the official blog of Menlo-Atherton Ecology Research Outdoors (MERO). Founded in 2017, MERO is a free, after-school environmental education program for high school English Language Learners that gets students outside doing ecology. El Mero Mero is Spanish for "the best" or "legit", which is exactly the kind of science we do in the MERO program! Archives
