EQUITY IN ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION

Our Vision

A fun and supportive community through which high school English Language Learners gain the academic, communication, and life skills needed to excel in high school and beyond.

MEASUREABLE SUCCESS

Building skills and community

Keeping students in school
100% of our 2017 students graduated or returned to school the next year, compared to only 84% of English Language Learners not in the program.

Earning academic credit
Credit deficiency is one of the greatest barriers to graduation for ELL students. MERO participants earn up to 2.5 elective credits, the equivalent of a quarter long course.

Fewer disciplinary problems
Students who participated in MERO had fewer disciplinary problems than they did prior to joining the program.

WHO WE SERVE

Our students

The MERO program is designed for English Language Learners at Menlo-Atherton High School (MAHS). Most of our students are recent immigrants to the United States, and face many challenges, including poverty, unstable living conditions, and poor K-8 educations. English Language Learners have the lowest graduation rates of any group at MAHS, despite representing ~15% of the student body.
